The “Golden” Spiral

"Rule of Thirds" Alley

This one comes to you from the Alanis Morissette “IRONIC” files… I had tagged along on the Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk in Auckland and had a fantastic time meeting other photogs… The problem many of us faced was how to capture something unique and interesting on a drab day in an all-too-familiar setting… I took a whole bunch of pretty average shots… train lines, statues, walls, and the like… It wasn’t until I got back to the cafe afterwards that I realised that I had left my camera on ISO 3200 from a little experiment the night before!!! What a dork! Anyways – this was one of the shots I submitted into the competition and blow me down if it didn’t end up winning and going into the INTERNATIONAL competition! I was pretty stoked!!!

It just goes to show, sometimes our stupidist moments can turn into something cool! :)

ISO 3200 – 1/17s at unknown aperture – comes from using the 1978 50mm f1.4 lens with no chip in it!

The Gecko…

Taken in the Auckland Museum on the D40x with 55-200mm Zoom. ISO Auto picked 900 @ f5.6 and 1/15s.

Processed in Photoshop CS2 with a conversion to LAB and back to RGB to pop the colours a bit… I think I actually have a preset for this now… :) I cloned out a couple of distractions in the shot as well (a big light blob and a leaf). Read the rest of this entry »

no bull (easter 2008)

nobull

I thought I would start this photoblog off with a pic that I took back in March over the easter break. I re-discovered it recently and thought it would be a good way to kick off. I am only going to put up one pic each week… so it should be one of my favourite or bestish ones… :) Hope you find it worthwhile to check out!

Here we go… The first up is a little pic taken in Howick on a walk near Somerville Road. It walks down to the estuary with a view to Whitford and beyond. These cows were just hanging out and I took the picture. I think I cropped it a bit to get the composition, and the result is something I am pleased with. One of the comments on Flickr thought that it looked like I interrupted their conversation… I liked that thought!

NO BULL (Nikon d40x with 55-200mm VR lens @ 55mm; f5.6: 1/400s: ISO 200: -1/3 stop exp comp) I think there was a teeny bit of post-processing in Lightroom – a little crop and vignette.
